Momoko Aritomi Viola
Momoko was born in Japan and was introduced to the violin and the piano at the age of four. After she graduated from the Tokyo University of Arts she came to Vienna to study viola at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where she was taught by Prof. Wolfgang Klos, Prof. Ulrich Schönauer and Prof. Thomas Selditz.

Some of her recent achievements include 1st place at the Japan Player’s Competition in 2013, as well as 2nd place at the international Anton Rubinstein Competition in 2019, 3rd place at the 16th Tokyo Music Competition, 3rd place (including a concert with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra), finalist at the International Competition Classic Strings Vienna (including a concert with the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra), 2nd place at the Romanian Music Competition (special award of the Romanian embassy).

In addition, she attended the Angelika Prokopp Summer Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 2019 and recently was awarded several scholarships: from the Anny Felbermayer Fund for the academic year 2019/2020, the Rohm Music Foundation Scholarship (Japan) 2020/2021, and the Josef & Harrietta Krips Scholarship (Switzerland) 2020.
