|Jan Čmejla received his first music instruction at the Ilja Hurník Primary School of the Arts
and at the Prague Grammar and Music School, where he studied under Prof. T. Vejvodová
and Prof. L. Klánský. Since 2018 he has been studying at the Prague Conservatory under
He has participated in numerous competitions, including the International
Joseph Haydn Festival in Vienna (2012), Virtuosi per musica di pianoforte in Ústí nad Labem
(2013, 2018), Young Steinway Artists (2012 and 2013), Prague Junior Note (2011, 2013,
2018), Pro Bohemia Ostrava (2011), Chopin for the Youngest (2015), the Novák Piano
Competition (2015), Prague Conservatory Young Piano (2015), Peter Toperczer Piano
Competition in Košice, Slovakia (2017), and Beethoven‘s Teplice (2018).
In 2014 he won the 21st annual Amadeus competition for pianists up to 11 years of age, which gave him the
opportunity to play with the Brno Philharmonic. In 2015 and 2017, he appeared in the
Rudolfinum with the Prague Symphony Orchestra as part of the ”Josef Suk Young Talents“
concert cycle. In 2015 he was chosen, as one of just ten participants, to attend the one-week
Allianz Junior Music Camp 2015 in Vienna, held by the Lang Lang International Music
Foundation. In April 2016 he appeared in a concert of prize-winners from the international
competition showcase Prague Conservatory Young Pianists, and performed with Václav
Hudeček at the Musical Holidays festival in Prague.
This year he won the Concertino
Praga International Radio Competition and gave solo recitals in the USA – at the
National Bohemian Hall in New York and at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
